Marina Lozano takes part in the summer course “Paleobiología de los Neandertales: origen, vida y extinción”

From 2 to 4 September 2026, Piloña (Asturias) will host the summer course “Paleobiología de los Neandertales: origen, vida y extinción”, organised by Piloña City Council and directed by Marco de la Rasilla and Antonio Rosas.

The course brings together specialists in human evolution to provide a broad overview of the origins, biology, ways of life and extinction of Neanderthal groups, with particular attention to the results of research carried out at El Sidrón, a key site of national and international importance for the study of these human populations.

Among the speakers will be Dr Marina Lozano, researcher at IPHES-CERCA, who on Thursday, 3 September, will give the lecture “Alimentación entre los grupos neandertales: ¿igual o distinta a la de H. sapiens?”, focusing on Neanderthal diet and its comparison with that of modern humans.

The programme combines scientific lectures with outreach activities and visits, including a visit to El Sidrón Cave. The course will take place at the Casa de Cultura de Infiesto, in Piloña.
