On March 12, 2025, the journal Nature publishes a study that will revolutionize studies of the first human occupations of the European continent. The work, led by Dr. Rosa Huguet, researcher at IPHES-CERCA, describes the human remains discovered in level TE7 of the Sima del Elefante (Sierra de Atapuerca, Burgos) with a chronology between 1.1 and 1.4 million years ago and which have been assigned to the species Homo aff. erectus.
