The magazine Nature selects images of Neanderthal remains recovered from the Abauntz cave (Arraitz-Orkin, Navarra) among the Images of the Month for October.
Images of the Neanderthal remains recovered from Abauntz Cave (Arraitz-Orkin, Navarre, Spain) have been selected by the prestigious scientific journal Nature for its October Images of the Month, an editorial feature that highlights some of the most remarkable scientific photographs released by research centres and institutions around the world each month.
This is the second time in 2026 that Nature has featured a discovery involving IPHES-CERCA in this international selection. Last May, the journal highlighted images of the exceptionally well-preserved juvenile Tapirus arvernensis skeleton recovered from the Camp dels Ninots palaeontological site in Caldes de Malavella (Girona, Spain). This latest recognition further strengthens the international visibility of research conducted at IPHES-CERCA and highlights both the scientific significance of these discoveries and the quality of their documentation and communication.
