IPHES-CERCA takes part in a major international conference on Neanderthals in Gibraltar
IPHES-CERCA researchers will present three contributions at “Neanderthal: The Conference”, which will bring together some of the world’s leading experts in human evolution from 2 to 5 September
From 2 to 5 September, Gibraltar will become a major international meeting point for Neanderthal research. The 30th edition of the Calpe Conference, organised by the Gibraltar National Museum under the title Neanderthal: The Conference, will bring together specialists from 50 academic institutions across 14 countries to provide an up-to-date overview of our knowledge of Neanderthal populations and discuss the latest research findings.
IPHES-CERCA will have a significant presence at the meeting, with several of its researchers participating in three scientific presentations. The programme will also feature internationally renowned researchers including Chris Stringer, John Hawks, Tom Higham, Francesco d’Errico, João Zilhão, Ian Tattersall, Katerina Douka and Ludovic Slimak, among many others.

The 30th edition of the conference also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the inscription of the Gorham’s Cave Complex on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the centenary of the discovery of Gibraltar 2, the juvenile Neanderthal individual discovered at Devil’s Tower Cave.
