IPHES-CERCA joins RECERCAT to strengthen open access dissemination of its research

IPHES-CERCA has recently joined the Research Repository of Catalonia (RECERCAT), a cooperative infrastructure promoted by the Consortium of University Services of Catalonia (CSUC) that aims to preserve and disseminate in open access the scientific and academic output of Catalan research centres and universities.

With this incorporation, IPHES-CERCA becomes part of the community of CERCA research centres represented in RECERCAT, strengthening its connection with the main infrastructures of the Catalan research system and contributing to the international visibility and impact of the research results generated by the institute.

Participation in RECERCAT will make it possible to progressively gather and openly disseminate research articles, conference contributions, scientific and institutional documentation, and other digital publications produced by the institute’s research and technical staff, facilitating open access, digital preservation and reuse within the research community.

IPHES-CERCA conducts interdisciplinary research that integrates archaeology, prehistory and human evolution with disciplines from the geosciences, biosciences and social sciences. This incorporation also contributes to consolidating the data management and open science strategy developed following its recognition as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence, an award that internationally acknowledges its scientific excellence and leadership in the study of human evolution and the responsible management of archaeological and palaeontological heritage.

What is RECERCAT?

RECERCAT is Catalonia’s cooperative repository for digital research documentation. Managed by the CSUC, the repository provides free online access to documents derived from the scientific activity of Catalan research centres and universities, helping to increase their visibility, impact and long-term preservation.

This infrastructure forms part of Catalonia’s open science ecosystem and is aligned with European strategies aimed at promoting research that is more accessible, transparent and reusable.

Research documents produced by IPHES-CERCA can be accessed through its dedicated RECERCAT collection, where all available digital materials will be progressively incorporated.

Commitment to Open Science

Joining RECERCAT continues the actions promoted by IPHES-CERCA through its Open Science Working Group in the fields of open access and research data management.

In this regard, in December 2025, a study produced by researchers at the institute became dataset number 2,000 published in the Research Data Repository (RDR), a significant milestone within the Catalan system of scientific repositories coordinated by the CSUC.

This dataset, focused on the study of the interface between bone surfaces and sedimentary matrices in archaeological contexts, exemplifies the institute’s commitment to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) and to the guidelines of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

Within this framework, IPHES-CERCA actively works to integrate the scientific outputs and data generated by its projects into institutional and federated repositories, thereby contributing to more open, transparent and accessible research for both the scientific community and society as a whole.
