IPHES-CERCA researchers take part in Pint of Science in Tarragona

On 18, 19 and 20 May, Tarragona and Reus will host a new edition of the ‘Pint of Science’ initiative, the science outreach festival that aims to bring science closer to society through direct interaction with researchers themselves, fostering knowledge, sparking curiosity and encouraging engagement between science and the public. The initiative seeks to demonstrate that science and research directly affect society and to make citizens active participants in science by turning bars into meeting points between the research community and the general public.

Conducting science outreach in the informal and relaxed atmosphere of a bar is what defines the festival, which has been held for eleven years and, in this edition, will take place in 114 cities and towns across Spain. In Tarragona and Reus, the event has been organised for the past nine years by the Association for Scientific Outreach in the Camp de Tarragona region.

Over the course of three days, around thirty researchers from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and from research institutions and centres in the region will bring their science closer to local audiences. Participants will include both early-career researchers and others with extensive experience in the research world. In Tarragona, the talks will be held at Bar 12 Topos, Sala Zero and Tòtem Cafè.

Once again, IPHES-CERCA is taking part in the initiative through its research and technical staff, who will deliver up to four talks in different venues across Tarragona.

The programme by day is as follows:

Monday, 18 May

Sala Zero (C/ de Sant Magí, 12 Tarragona)

7:00 pm. Digital Minds in Palaeolithic Bodies, Marina Lozano

Monday, 18 May

Tòtem Cafè (C/ Rambla Vella, 15 Tarragona)

7:00 pm.  An Archaeologist Digging Through Trash, Maria Joana Gabucio

Tuesday, 19 May

Wednesday, 20 May

We invite everyone to visit one of these venues and enjoy talks on these and many other topics related to scientific research.
