IPHES-CERCA takes part in the organisation of FAIR Data Fair 2026, Catalonia’s leading event on Open Science and FAIR data
Amèlia Bargalló, Marta Fontanals and Javier Sopesens will represent IPHES-CERCA in different sessions of an event bringing together professionals and institutions committed to the open and reusable management of research data
IPHES-CERCA is actively participating in the organisation and development of FAIR Data Fair 2026, a leading event on Open Science and research data management based on FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable), which will take place on June 18 at the Auditorium of the Rectorate building of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV).
This year, FAIR Data Fair reaches its fourth edition, firmly established as one of the main meeting points for experts, professionals and institutions within the Catalan research system interested in the management, preservation and reuse of open-access scientific data.
The event is organised by the Consortium of University Services of Catalonia (CSUC) together with the URV, the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC), the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research (ICIQ), the Biomedical Research Institute of Southern Catalonia (IRB Catalunya Sud), the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), and IPHES-CERCA.
IPHES-CERCA participation
IPHES-CERCA’s participation in this edition will be especially significant, both scientifically and organisationally.
Dr Amèlia Bargalló will take part in the round table discussion “Research data management across the territory: what do we have and what is still missing?”, a debate space devoted to analysing the current challenges of Open Science, data infrastructures and the future needs of the Catalan research system.
Meanwhile, Marta Fontanals, Head of Knowledge Transfer and Responsible Research at IPHES-CERCA, will participate in the presentation of the FAIR Awards, recognitions aimed at highlighting innovative experiences in research data management and reuse.
In addition, Javier Sopesens, Data Manager at IPHES-CERCA, is a member of the Scientific Committee of FAIR Data Fair 2026, while Marta Fontanals is also part of the event’s Logistics Committee, reinforcing the centre’s active role in coordinating and promoting the event.
A conference focused on data reuse and interoperability
The FAIR Data Fair 2026 programme includes conferences, debates and networking spaces devoted to research data management and Open Science.
Among the highlights is the opening lecture by physicist and science communicator Josep Perelló Palou, winner of the 2025 Open Science Award, focused on the challenges and opportunities generated by citizen science in relation to FAIR data.
The event will also include a dialogue on interoperability and connected data featuring representatives from EOSC Spain and ORCID, as well as a flash presentation session devoted to sharing real experiences of FAIR implementation in universities and research centres by research and technical staff.
Commitment to Open Science
IPHES-CERCA’s participation in FAIR Data Fair is part of the centre’s strategy to promote more open, transparent and reusable research aimed at ensuring open access to and preservation of scientific knowledge, fully aligned with European Open Science standards and FAIR guidelines.
