IPHES-CERCA joins the commemoration of International Women's Day

On the occasion of International Women's Day (8M), IPHES-CERCA has joined the commemoration of this day by highlighting the role of the women who are part of the center and who, through their daily work, contribute to the advancement of research in the fields of prehistory, archaeology, and human paleoecology. IPHES-CERCA and all its staff maintain a firm commitment to equal rights and opportunities between women and men.

In this regard, the center works to promote more equitable scientific environments and to encourage scientific vocations among younger generations, convinced that the science of the future can only be built on equality.

To mark this day, the center also organized a lecture by Dr. Laura Muñoz-Encinar, titled "Archaeology of Francoist violence against women". The talk offered a deep look at the repression exercised against women during the Franco regime from the perspective of forensic archaeology and democratic memory. The conference was particularly moving for the attendees, highlighting the importance of knowing and studying these episodes from the past.

A harsh but necessary account that invites reflection and serves as a reminder of how essential it is to preserve historical memory to understand the present and prevent these forms of violence from being repeated in the future.
