IPHES-CERCA and the rest of the SOMMa alliance’s centres and units of excellence meet in Valencia

IPHES-CERCA will take part on 13 and 14 November in 100xCiencia.9, held at CaixaForum Valencia, the ninth edition of the annual meeting of the SOMMa Alliance, which brings together the Severo Ochoa Centres of Excellence and the María de Maeztu Units of Excellence. This year’s edition, under the motto “Science for Society, Touching Consciences”, will focus on the ability of excellent research to generate social impact and help address today’s major challenges. The event will also be streamed live via SOMMa’s YouTube channel.

IPHES-CERCA’s participation comes at a particularly relevant moment for the centre, which last April renewed its María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence accreditation for the second consecutive time, awarded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI). This distinction recognises research units with the greatest scientific impact, social transfer capacity and international projection.

Strategic meetings prior to the official opening

Before the start of the main programme, the morning of the 13th will be devoted to internal meetings of SOMMa’s working groups (Project Managers, Open Science, Technology Transfer & Innovation, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and Communication) and to the Executive Committee meeting with the directors of all accredited research centres. These sessions are key spaces for coordinating shared strategic lines among the member institutions.

IPHES-CERCA’s active participation in these working groups reinforces its commitment to shared policies in open science, responsible research management, knowledge transfer, inclusion and scientific communication.

A congress that brings science and society together

The opening ceremony will feature the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, as well as representatives from the Valencian Regional Government, the State Research Agency (AEI), the CSIC, and the Valencian universities UV, UPV, and UMH.

The congress consolidates itself as a reference platform showcasing excellent research carried out by Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu accredited centres, as well as their social impact. This year, five SO/MM-accredited institutions from the Valencian Community will serve as hosts: IATA-CSIC, ICMol-UV, ITQ-UPV/CSIC, IFIC-UV/CSIC, and IN-CSIC/UMH.

100xCiencia.9 will address key topics such as the relationship between science, innovation and public policy, scientific communication, and collaboration between research and society, featuring leading national experts.

An event open to the public

With a strong social vocation, 100xCiencia.9 includes outreach activities and debates on sustainability, health, energy and climate change. Its aim is to strengthen dialogue between the scientific community and the public, bringing scientific knowledge closer to society and highlighting its transformative role.

About SOMMa

The SOMMa Alliance brings together research centres and units of excellence recognised by the State Research Agency. Its mission is to strengthen excellence in science, promote interdisciplinary collaboration and increase the social impact of Spanish research.
