Passing of Ramon Capdevila Vallverdú, discoverer of the Barranc de la Boella site, at the age of 88
Last Friday, 7 November, Ramon Capdevila Vallverdú passed away in Reus. He was the discoverer of some of the most important archaeological sites in the Camp de Tarragona and the Prades Mountains, such as Barranc de la Boella, Cantacorbs, the chipped-pebble sites of Cap de Salou, and the group of rock engravings at the Cogullons.
Passionate about archaeology, he worked closely with Dr Salvador Vilaseca until the latter’s death exactly 50 years ago. In recent years, he collaborated with the IPHES-CERCA team, sharing information and materials during the renewed research at the sites of Barranc de la Boella, Cantacorbs and the Cogullons engravings and, in the case of La Boella, taking an active part in the first excavation campaigns.
With his passing, the archaeological community loses one of the emblematic figures of amateur research in the second half of the 20th century. From IPHES-CERCA, we express our gratitude for his support and extend our sincere condolences to his family.
May he rest in peace.
