Two initiatives linked to the Atapuerca project, nominated for the National Geographic History +Historia Awards
The Atapuerca project is once again the protagonist of scientific and cultural news with two nominations for the second edition of the +Historia Awards of the National Geographic Historia magazine. IPHES-CERCA has played a prominent role in both nominations:
- The discovery of “ Pink ”, the human facial fragment found at the Sima del Elefante site (Sierra de Atapuerca, Burgos) in 2022, dated between 1.1 and 1.4 million years old. It is the oldest known face in Western Europe, a discovery that has had a great international resonance.
- The exhibition “ Homo antecessor. The discovery of a species ”, organized by the Museum of Human Evolution (MEH, Burgos), in which IPHES-CERCA has actively participated in both the conception and development of the contents.
The +Historia Awards aim to recognize initiatives, discoveries and dissemination actions that contribute to disseminating and preserving history and heritage. Voting is open to the public until October 12, and the winning projects will be announced in the December issue of the magazine.
From IPHES-CERCA we encourage everyone to support these candidacies and participate in the online vote through the official website of the +History Awards.
