IPHES-CERCA researchers take part in the summer course “The Neanderthals of El Sidrón in their evolutionary context”

From 3 to 5 September 2025, the town of Piloña (Asturias) will host the summer course “The Neanderthals of El Sidrón in their evolutionary context”, organized and sponsored by the Piloña City Council and directed by Marco de la Rasilla and Antonio Rosas.

The course brings together leading specialists in human evolution to offer a broad and updated perspective on the Neanderthals. Among the faculty are the IPHES-CERCA researcher Juan Ignacio Morales Hidalgo, who will give the lecture “Cultural dynamics during the end of the European Middle Paleolithic”, and the IPHES-CERCA researcher Rosa Huguet Pàmies, who will address the topic “Anthropophagy among Neanderthals”.

The program combines scientific lectures with outreach activities and visits, including a field trip to the El Sidrón cave, one of the key sites for the study of this human species. Through this participation, IPHES-CERCA reaffirms its commitment to research on Neanderthal groups and to the transfer of knowledge to society.
