Rosa Huguet takes part in the round table “Humanas: three researchers of our evolution” in Madrid
On Tuesday, 10 February 2026, Dr Rosa Huguet, researcher at IPHES-CERCA and associate professor at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), will take part in the round table entitled “Humanas: three researchers of our evolution” at the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque in Madrid.
The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. and will bring together three leading specialists in human evolution: María Martinón-Torres, director of the National Research Centre on Human Evolution (CENIEH); Rosa Huguet, researcher at IPHES-CERCA; and Mercedes Conde-Valverde, professor at the University of Alcalá.
During the session, the three researchers will share their scientific trajectories and reflect on the main research lines in human evolution, as well as on the role of women in this scientific field.
Rosa Huguet has been part of the Atapuerca research team since 1995 and, since 2007, has coordinated fieldwork and research at the Sima del Elefante site. Her research focuses on the subsistence strategies of the first human groups in Europe during the Pleistocene, as well as on the study of Neanderthal populations in the Iberian Peninsula. In March 2024, she led the publication, in the journal Nature, of the human face discovered at Sima del Elefante, attributed to Homo aff. erectus.
This activity is part of the initiatives linked to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, with the aim of highlighting the work of women researchers and encouraging scientific vocations among younger generations.
