PHES-CERCA mourns the passing of Jimmy, long-time collaborator at the Atapuerca sites
The Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES-CERCA) expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of José Antonio Palacios, known to all as Jimmy, a long-time collaborator at the Atapuerca sites and a person dearly appreciated by the entire research team.
A resident of Ibeas de Juarros, Jimmy was one of the first guards at the sites and an enthusiastic supporter of the Atapuerca project from its earliest days. For decades he remained closely linked to the team and, even after his retirement, he continued to collaborate selflessly, always ready to help with whatever was needed. He felt the project as his own and was one of its most loyal defenders.
Those who worked with him remember his helpful nature, his constant smile, his generosity and his honesty. A tireless worker and a deeply valued companion, his presence was a constant at the sites for many years.
For many members of the team, Jimmy was much more than a collaborator. He was a warm and caring person, always ready to share a moment, a conversation or a hug. We will also miss his gruff side, so much a part of his personality, which always went hand in hand with a big heart.
His human legacy and his contribution to the Atapuerca project will remain forever in the memory of all who knew him.
Rest in peace, friend.
